Butterfly Lovers Concerto recording @ Pavane
Today was really, really fun.
I had The Butterfly Lovers Concerto rehearsal with Ji Wei at YST in the morning, but before we began our rehearsal, together with Samuel, the three of us munched on our MacDonald's breakfast while chit-chatting. Then, it was back to serious business, before the three of us headed down to Pavane Recording Studio in the Bukit Merah area for the album recording. Before going to our destination, we drove to a nearby coffee shop for a small lunch. The $3 herbal chicken soup I had was really good. Think will go back there again, haha.
Anyway, Pavane Recording Studio, which was formerly in Holland Village, shifted to its present place about two and a half years ago. The boss is GAO Yang, a friend whom I've known for ages. The studio is really nice and chic, though rather dry. The Yamaha baby grand is also not too bad. Justin, the American sound engineer from LaSalle, was there with his students, who would be observing our recording while learning the whole recording process. Stressful, but interesting, haha.
After what seemed like an eternity, with the setting up of mikes and all, Ji Wei and I finally started our recording. Throughout the four hours or so, we did numerous recordings and re-recordings of sections, and by the time we finally finished recording the whole piece, we were like so tired. Well, hope the editing will be good, haha.
Before we left, we all had tea and chit-chat with Gao Yang in his cute little kitchen. Samuel, Ji Wei and I then headed down to YMCA off Stevens Road for, what else, Oriental Chicken Salad! The guys agreed that it was good too, and we had a really good dinner plus chit-chat all the way till almost 10pm. Thank you, guys, for dinner and a great day! Sure am looking forward to future collaborations! :)
